Re: (erielack) More stuff on flat cars...

High & Wide cars originated from Air Preheater in Wellsville, NY frequently.

The B&LE interchange at Shenango, PA was a huge source of H&W shipments that
originated at Bucyrus-Erie in Erie, Pa and Cooper-Bessemer in Grove City, PA
and others.

In Youngstown, the W B Pollock Co manufactured Hot Metal Cars and Slag Cars
for the steel industry and much of this moved to the Gary/Chicago area.
Youngstown Steel Door Co also moved rail car sides in gondolas as 'kits' to
other roads.

There was also a company in Youngstown--they are still there, I THINK it is
Highway Heat Co that makes liquid tar trucks for highway paving. They were
(are) located on the Austintown Branch, which is now the Ohio Central. And
finally, in Youngstown there was United Engineering and Wean United
Engineering (related) and they made steel mill rolling and fabricating
equipment.

Someone in the New Castle area made steel mill pots, kettles and slag pots
that worked up the P&LE to Youngstown. Westinghouse in Sharon shipped many a
transformer. Most of these were about 18'6 high and up to 13'0" wide.

This was a source of some of the H&W shipments on the EL.
