Re: (erielack) Ramsey, Mahwah NIMBY

What Alan says is true. I lived in Little Neck NY, on the Port Washington
branch, about two blocks from the station. My mom, who still lives in that
house, says property there is going in the $250,000 range, even for the
small houses. These command a somewhat higher price than a house farther
away. I don't get the NIMBY types. They all want the benefit of the improved
infrastructure, but don't want it near them, yet they'll cry when the area
becomes so congested as to be an inconvenience to their orderly progress to
the mall. As some of you know, I drove a truck for a while, which involved
encountering too many "no truck" or "no truck parking" signs in "upscale
suburbs"-places that wanted the stuff, and this is a sore point with me.

Just to prove this is not new, I came across a book over the weekend
entitled "The Industrial Guide to New Jersey". It was published in 1915.
You'd be surprised(or maybe not) the number of towns that "have no
industrial concerns in the town, and have no desire to have any." Quite a
few are in Bergen County. Le plus que change...
