Re: (erielack) Phoebe Snow Box cars

Being a Lackawanna aficionado, I was quite aware of the early 20th Century
advertising campaign of the Lackawanna using the white gowned Miss Phoebe
Snow. However I did not notice that the box cars stated "The Route of
Phoebe Snow" (the lady), not "The Route of THE Phoebe Snow" (the train)

It is still a little puzzling in that the DL would use Phoebe, which was
only a symbol of cleanliness of the Lackawanna's passenger trains, as a
slogan, which by the way in 1942 were not clean, because they were steam and
burning bituminous coal, because the anthracite was saved for the troop &
cargo ships to leave as little smoke as possible on the open seas. It is
still somewhat puzzling.
