They were widely used on the Mahoning Division.  We called them greasers and 
we had guys that were known as Lubricator Maintainers that filled, adjusted 
and maintained the 'greasers'.

A greaser that was empty or not working properly was real trouble.  No grease 
would cause trains to 'bind up' in curves, and lubricators that were putting 
out too much grease would result in grease on the rail, and would cause the 
locomotive to slip and sometimes the train would stall.
