Re: (erielack) Pascack Valley / NJ&NY name change?

Wilson Jones says on p. 109 that the NJ&NY ceased to exist in 1960 when it
became the Erie Lackawanna Pascack Valley Line.

From all that I have read, including Wilson Jones, it seems like the NJ&NY
stopped existing on its own in the 1890's, when they were taken over by the
Erie, which they seemed to be closely aligned with all along anyway, using
the JC terminal, etc. As for the "Horace Banta, Trustee" that leads me to
believe that it was operated as a division of the Erie- an Erie-owned
company- and not as a full part of the Erie Railroad.
What I do know is that despite the use of "NJ&NY" to describe the
line, I have not seen any pictures of trains/ locomotives in NJ&NY livery
past the turn of the century, all equipment was Erie, not specifically marked
for that division. The last NJ&NY locomotives, the old 4-4-0's built in the
1890's (#11 Haverstraw and #12 Park Ridge) were gone by 1922.
I hope that some local people with some more experience than I can
shed more light on this...
