(erielack) Video History

Listers (ELHS members, mostly)

At one time, the ELHS had an active program for the interviewing and
videotaping of veterans of the railroads. Several interviews were
conducted, with varying degrees of success, as one might expect. They were
all in the NJ area, as I recall, because the prime mover, so to speak, of
the effort was located there.

That person's life has become complex, and he's no longer able to devote
time to this enterprise.

I know that there are vets out there, and we're losing many of them every
year. This program needs to be revived and moved forward. I know of
several people who really should be interviewed . . . soon.

This is a complex thing, in a way, due to the geographic reach of the roads
involved. The vets I'm aware of range from towermen in NJ to steam-era
engineers in Meadville, and I'm sure that there are more further west that I
just don't happen to have heard about. There's a 94 year old Erie
electrican who worked in the Susquehanna Shops. There's a conductor living
near Susquehanna.

Therefore, I'm looking for a couple (or more) volunteers to work on this
project. We need an organizer, someone who can at least work to set up some
standards for basic information recording (you know, name, rank & serial
number) as well as some ideas about format. Some one to take the bull by
the horns. And we need interviewers, scattered throughout the system, who
will commit to taking the time to go and get these interviews done.

Please reply off list. Thanks.
