(erielack) NJT to Stanhope, and crossing Lake Hopatcong

The Stanhope/Netcong station was on the 'Old Main' through Netcong until
the 'Stanhope Cut-off' was built in 1901, connecting the Sussex Branch
to Netcong. A new brick station was built at this time because the old
one was on the ROW of the Sussex connection.

So far I have been unable to document when the 'Stanhope' was dropped
-From the 'Netcong/Stanhope' name of the station. It's in parentheses in
1912, and in 1923 it's just listed as Netcong.

Netcong and Stanhope have been the same station for a long time! Before
service was extended to Hackettstown in 1994, there were two stations west
of Dover - Lake Hopatcong and Netcong/Stanhope, but I think the Stanhope
part was dropped long ago. Now there are four, adding Mt Olive and
Hackettstown. There may have been a separate Stanhope station, but it
would have been on the Sussex Branch, which has been abandoned for over 35
years.
