(erielack) Motive Power for Long-Haul Freights

Dear Group, 

Happy 4th, to those in EL territory and elsewhere in the USofA.

Question:  On the pre-merger DL&W and Erie, and the early days of the EL
(before second generation power arrived), were long haul freights always
hauled by F units (and Trainmasters on the Lackawanna), or did GP7s and
RS2s/RS3s see action on road freights?  It seems the only photos I ever
see of the Geeps and Alcos are on local / branchline freights.
