I used to see the EL 1060 at Scranton for serving. Dave Ratcliff the Mech.
Supv. was satisfied with it. He used to refer to her as Christine account
she had sex change operation from a Alco to a EMD. Also Dave liked to point
out that on the EL rebuild they added 6 inches to the bottom of the long
hood, and did not build a hump like DeWitt shops did. I do remember Fred
Wills telling me that they used to keep extra power assemblies on hand at
Hornell so when a locomotive had a failure they could just lift out the
engine and replace it with a rebuilt one. The bad order engine was taken
back into the shop and rebuilt. It then was used as a change out engine.
