The meeting was about two hours. The issues centered on Morris County and
Northern NJ transportation for the future into 2025. Of the few dozen or so
that were in attendance we talked to the NJTPA officials about the need to
complete new rail starts (and the Lackawanna Cutoff)as a means to provide
corridor traffic relief (as opposed to building more highway lanes). The
group also talked about the need for feeder route bus lines to get commuters
to and from train stations.
Speaking for the cause, we made our case for the Lackawanna Cutoff. It all
seems to hinge on federal dollars coming from the H.R. 4475 Transportation
Bill in the Senate (yet to be acted on). Its up to Senators Specter and
Lautenberg during the conference sessions on H.R. 4475 in coming days to find
the $5.3 miilion for engineering.
As for as the NJTPA is concerned, the project is been given a high priority.
It all boils down to $$ and cents being available in FY 2001.

There will be more meetings like this one in the future. Hopefully we will
have more warning to post the dates and times.

Seth
