Hi Steve,
I don't know where thew rumor that former MCCRR 0-6-0 4039 is headed to
Steamtown got started but it is false. The Whippany Railway Museum diod
receive a $15,000.00 matching grant from a corporaste foundation( can't
recall the name at the moment) that will help in the museum's long-range gola
to return the lcomotive to steam but it is a drop in the bucket as compared
to what is needed to complete the project estimated at well over $300,000.00.
The musuem did hire Mr. J. David Conrad of the Valley Railroad a couple of
years ago to do a thorough inspection and cost estimate for the rebuild. If
enough funds are raised to go forward with the job plans are to disassemble
the locomotive and truck it to the VRR at Essex, CT, where Dave Conrad's firm
can do the work and test-run her when finished. Profits from the trips run by
the museum throughout the year are being set aside for this undertaking.
