RE: Way More Re: (erielack) Cut-off service

Martz runs about 12 daily rush hour trips, 600 passengers as the
busses do run full - at $40 per round trip! There is off-peak
service too - but not much - and a few trips to Philly (so there,
those who say everyone worships the 6ers).

Despite this, even if the train cost more, it would draw many away
from the bus. That 'few stops' trip has MANY little stops, called
getting into the Lincoln Tunnel. You know, the traffic gets heavy
and everyone stops, then the bus moves 6 inches and stops, then
moves another 6 inches and stops, etc. After 5 minutes of this,
half the passengers are retching. The train DOES NOT DO THAT.
The bus is scheduled for 2 and a half hours; I highly doubt that it
achieves this regularly especially the inbound trip due in New York
at 6 and 6:15pm - it takes a half hour to reach and transit the
tunnel without a bus lane, minimum. I think a realistic schedule
for the bus that they actually attain is 3 hours or more. The train
can achieve this, even with some (but not many) stops east of Dover.
If they stop to let people off at Morristown, Convent, and Summit
(where the ridership surveys say people ARE going to get to work),
let anyone who's there on. Let the train run ahead of schedule if
it can (5 minutes) with a note on the timetable that says the train
is primarily stopping to discharge passengers, but will accept them
and won't wait. Ditto outbound - anyone can ride, but don't hold
up the train and the boarding passengers. Of course, high level
platforms in NJ would help this a lot.

Weekend service is a totally different scene. A good connection
from New York (maybe just running between Dover and Scranton) will
work with most NYC residents; they are already used to travelling
'light' and changing trains in the subway. Across the platform is
practically nothing, when the new train is waiting for them.
Frequency is important - every 2 hours or better - and so is all-
day service, 8am or so to 10 pm departures from both ends.
