Finally ... the errata page I received in my copy of 20th Century, =
volume 2 has been found !! ... it is yellow stock, (probably) printed =
using a stencil and 'mimeograph' with redish ink on one side and blueish =
ink on the other ... I've tried to copy with a Xerox machine ... no luck =
... thin paper and faint print are against me ... would be same on a =
scanner, I think.

So, with a little spare time ... I 'typed' it in ... there are some =
misspellings (noted with 'sic'), an occasional unreadable letter and a =
coupla hand written corrections ... I've attempted to be as true to the =
original as possible ... please lemme know if anything looks =
questionable as re-entering always can lead to additional errors, eh? =
My 'Note 1' in the Chapter XI section refers to a hand entered letter =
between the second 'l' and the 'i' ... I cannot make it out and I don't =
know what letter would go there ... but, then, maybe the spelling of =
'collier' may be in doubt??

One page is headed "ADDITIONS AND CORRECTIONS TO D.L.&W. IN 20TH =
CENTURY" ... the other side with no heading, but the entries appear to =
be from 20th century. At the bottom of the 'headed' page appears an =
underlined heading "D. L. & W. in 19th Century" ... it is only one =
paragraph. I have entered the text in the order it appears, headed page =
followed by unheaded (back) page.

Hope this helps and doesn't confuse the issues. I can e-mail a Word =
version if requested.

Chaper (sic) XI: The reason for the large decrease in anthracite coal =
traffic in 1932, which thereby became a major reason for the financial =
losses of the early 1930s, was an agreement made by the Penn Anthracite =
Colliers (note 1) in 1931 with the NYO&W RR. The O&W transferred its =
colleries(sic) to Penn Anthracite with the proviso that P.A. then ship =
all coal over the O&W whenever the freight rate by the O&W was the same =
as another railroad. The O&W doubled its coal tonnage in 1932 over 1931 =
by picking up 2,200,000 tons of coal. Most the this was apparently at =
the expense of the Lackawanna. The Annual Reports of the Penna. Bureau =
of Mines, which had given information of every breaker and who carried =
its coal, discontinued this and most of the information in 1930 so that =
it cannot be determined exactly where the Lackawanna lost out.

D. L. & W. in 19th Century

According to Stewart Graham and as shown in a known photograph, the =
Lackawanna had two locomotives which were renamed, but the reasons are =
unknown and the earlier names do not show in most records at one time in =
existence. "Tekaharay" was renamed Great Bend. It was Main Line #122. =
"Popokophunk" was renamed Pohatcong. It is believed to have been Main =
Line #33, 2-8-0. Many early rebuilt camelbacks had two steam domes. The =
one in the cab was for the throttle. The other dome, up front, was for =
the safety valve and whistle.

[back page]

P.329. The service on the Cincinnatus Branch was discontinued December =
29, 1961; not 12-29-59.

P.682. The 7 coaches, #201-207 were seven former sleeping cars which =
were "converted" during 1954. They were 12-section, 1 drawing room cars =
"Anbury", Appian, Bijou, Imolo, Mandalay, Omena, Planter. It is =
questionable if any of them were actually used as coaches, and within a =
few years most were off the roster. In January 1960 only the 202 was =
still listed.

SLEEPING CAR INFORMATION

In 1949 the railroad had 19 sleepers, 17 were in use with 2 spares to =
cover heavy travel on holidays to Buffalo. With the 9 new sleepers =
arriving that year only 8 of the older cars were kept in use, and the =
others were store(sic). In 1954 7 sleepers were removed from service and =
retired - being rebuilt or reassigned as coaches. The remaining 12 old =
sleepers remained until 1959 when 8 were disposed leaving only the four =
"Scenic" cars left.

Sleepers acquired from Pullman:

Anbury, Appian, Bijou, Gilolo, Imolo, Mandalay, Omena(*), Planter, =
Rokyatt(**), Raymilton(****), McConkey(**), McCordsville(**). (12 =
section, 1 D.R.) Scenic Falls, Scenic Slope, Scenic Trail, Scenic =
Valley. 10 section, 2 D.R. Bowman Lake, Devils Lake, Medicine Lake. =
 10 scetion(sic), 1 D.R., 2 compartments.

* Syracuse - Hoboken cars

** Scranton - Hoboken

**** Philadelphia - Syracuse car (Reading RR supplied other car)

The last 3 named Scenic cars were Hoboken-Chicago service.

Some sleepers taken out of service in 1959 were not scrapped. The Devils =
Lake was observed in 1962 still lettered Lackawanna and in Pullman =
Green. Most of the other 18 old sleepers were never painted maroon and =
grey(sic).

P.66. 20th Century. Middle picture. At the crossing were only =
Susquehanna and Erie tracks; the Pennsylvania RR did not have any but =
connected with the Susquehanna. In 1950s Susquehanna ceded track to =
Pennsylvania.

P.755. Newton. There was a turntable here.

P.738. Fair Ground. There was a station xxxx(sic) building here which =
was used only during the annual fair. It may have been torn down in the =
1920s.

P.761. Savona Station was moved in 1960s/70s to Bath where it is now a =
store.

P.771. Whitney Point station may have been built later than 1904.

P.771. Wilseyville station was also used by the L.V.R.R.

P.733. Dansville,NY station burned shortly after agent discontinued in =
1960s

P. 729. Carolina station was where L.V.'s Elmira and Cortland Branch =
crossed.
