Within this game are several "zones" which are patterned after Railroads in
the Western New York area. Currently represented are the New York Central
System, Erie Railroad and the Pennsylvania Railroad.
You can actually board and ride around Western New York on any of the three
lines, stopping at all the stations from the early part of the century!
One area is a trip between the old downtown Exchange Street Station and Olean, NY
on the Pennsy's Buffalo Line aboard a train reminiscent of "The Jerk." Mud
travellers can connect with the Erie RR at North Olean for a ride back to
Buffalo.
Another is a recreation of the Central's Commuter Beltline and has quite a bit
of detail included in the station, interlocking, consist and area descriptions.
There are even two commuter locals, one hauled by a re-drivered American type
not unlike the famous 999 that Charles Hogan urged to 112.5 mph in 1898!
The third area is the Erie RR's line from Buffalo's Michigan St. station to
North Olean where it connects to the Pennsy. Portions of this line are now in
use by the Buffalo Southern RR and the New York and Lake Erie.
The "zones" are directly based on the pre-war rail heyday, back when Buffalo was the second largest rail center in the USA. While relatively complete at this time, we think of them as being just a starting place for what we hope to build into an extensive travel experience from the past.
