Southern dispatched two steam powered cranes and crews for the lift, loading and tie-down of the engine as it moved through Huntsville, Chattanooga, Louisville and E. St. Louis on Southern's line across Southern Indiana in January,1968--while we waited in a siding for a clear track, another freight at low speed split an iced switch and hit the front loco on our consist, which included an F unit just ahead of our loaded locomotive. It was hours before the tracks were cleared of seven or eight cars that had toppled off the track when the jolt came. When I asked Dave how the engine ran when he opened the throttle for the first time, he said it was like a Swiss watch, meaning it glided along with track without a sound.
