From: "Norm Pascal" appleglen -AT- shaw -DOT- ca Date: Sat Dec 10 20:29:31 2011 Subject: This bridge became rather famous, for as a wooden trestle it was one of the longest for its height in the country. The bridge and rail line between Lethbridge and Calgary were completed in 1911. The present steel structure replaced the wooden trestle in 1928. The more shallow wooden trestle on the south end (right side of photo) was filled in with earth dug by steam shovel and hauled by train loads and then dumped over the side. This shortened the bridge by about 500 feet. image/jpeg, 1600x1200 (24bit)
