Subject: This photo of the Royal Canadian Pacific was taken June 4/06 at the location of the Frank Slide, mile 86 of the Crowsnest Sub. In the early morning hours of April 29, 1903, Turtle Mountain collapsed, resulting in the greatest landslide in North American history. In 100 seconds: at least 76 people were buried alive under tons of massive limestone boulders; three-quarters of the homes in Frank were crushed like balsa wood; over a mile of the Canadian Pacific Railroad was completely destroyed; and a river became a lake. A short history of this event can be found at "http://www3.sympatico.ca/goweezer/canada/frank.htm"

The red locomotive, CP3131 is a last minute substitution for CP4101 which, according to one of the train personnel, "met an untimely death". The Royal Canadian Pacific's reputation as the world's most luxurious train has made it the preferred choice of travel to some of the most famous individuals of modern history. " This tour left Calgary, AB on June 2/06; spent the first night in Golden, B.C. and last night here, at Summit Lake in the Crowsnest Pass. This area, also known as "the Crow" in CPR circles, is the end of the Crowsnest Subdivision and the beginning of the Cranbrook Subdivision. This train will be travelling east on the Crowsnest Subdivision to Lethbridge, AB. Here is a sequence of eight photos (CP3084_1 to _8) that document this journey on June 4/06.
