From: "Dan Syrcher" sst703 -AT- verizon -DOT- net Date: Mon Mar 28 00:05:56 2011 Subject: The next 15 photo's are what remains of the umcompleted section of the Buffalo and Cohocton Valley RR in Clarence, NY. Although the ROW made its way into WNY, the line was only completed upto Batavia, NY. Work stopped west of Batavia sometime after 1853. This photo is the start of what is left of the ROW/Embankment facing West. Behind me, the embankment is gone and is now an access road for the quarry all the way to Tillman Rd. image/jpeg, 2592x1944 (24bit) 01_B+CRR_3-27-11.jpg    826479 bytes |

From: "Dan Syrcher" sst703 -AT- verizon -DOT- net Date: Fri Oct 15 21:57:43 2010 Subject: This is the B&S crossing Junction Rd. The road right in front of me curving to the right and up is Junction Rd. The other road in the shade is Switchback Rd or the r-o-w headed in an easterly direction with SB 4&5 a few miles away. image/jpeg, 2048x1536 (24bit) 01_Junction_Rd.jpg    549544 bytes |

From: "Dan Syrcher" sst703 -AT- verizon -DOT- net Date: Sun Mar 27 23:51:17 2011 Subject: A little further into the ROW. The snow really makes the embankment stick out in this area. image/jpeg, 2592x1944 (24bit) 02_B+CRR_3-27-11.jpg    853119 bytes |

From: "Dan Syrcher" sst703 -AT- verizon -DOT- net Date: Fri Oct 15 22:02:08 2010 Subject: A more upclose look at Switchback Rd. This is recently graveled making it easy to drive on. This goes for about 1 mile or so before bending to the right and leaving the r-o-w. image/jpeg, 2048x1536 (24bit) 02_Switchback_RD.jpg    551117 bytes |

From: "Dan Syrcher" sst703 -AT- verizon -DOT- net Date: Sun Mar 27 23:47:26 2011 Subject: This section of the ROW is the only spot with no snow on it. I tried to look for ballast but only found 2 stones. I'm surprised I even found those. Many decades of leaves have fallen on this abandoned ROW. image/jpeg, 2592x1944 (24bit) 03_B+CRR_3-27-11.jpg    947155 bytes |

Thousands of cans of string beans spilled from both cars. image/jpeg, 1280x960 (24bit) 04-trainwreck.jpg    208739 bytes |

From: "Dan Syrcher" sst703 -AT- verizon -DOT- net Date: Sun Mar 27 23:40:14 2011 Subject: This is the first drainage ditch dug across the embankment. Once across it, the ROW flattens out and almost disappears. Even the overgrowth changes. I think this section between the first and second ditch may have been bulldozed at some point. Before I got to the second ditch, I started to think that maybe this is the point at which the work on the ROW was terminated. But it does keep going. image/jpeg, 2592x1944 (24bit) 04_B+CRR_3-27-11.jpg    727651 bytes |

From: "Dan Syrcher" sst703 -AT- verizon -DOT- net Date: Fri Oct 15 22:09:14 2010 Subject: This is where Switchback Rd turns of the r-o-w and heads down into a valley below. My car is parked outside the gate on the r-o-w. image/jpeg, 2048x1536 (24bit) 04_Switchback_Rd.jpg    705603 bytes |

From: "Dan Syrcher" sst703 -AT- verizon -DOT- net Date: Sun Dec 10 21:30:44 2006 Subject: This is a zoomed in look where the 2nd boxcar is hanging onto the bridge. The blue boxcar on the bridge is still half on the rails. They are clearing all the broken trucks and axles buring underneath. Trains were operating in both directions at this time. image/jpeg, 1280x960 (24bit) 05-trainwreck.jpg    85591 bytes |

From: "Dan Syrcher" sst703 -AT- verizon -DOT- net Date: Sun Dec 10 21:34:15 2006 Subject: The cans of string beans may have survived the initial wreck but they are no match for the weight of a payloader. Explosive! image/jpeg, 1280x960 (24bit) 06-exploding_beans.jpg    188216 bytes |

From: "Dan Syrcher" sst703 -AT- verizon -DOT- net Date: Sun Mar 27 23:32:19 2011 Subject: While I stand on this section of ROW, it is very difficult to see it. It is much flatter without any embankments to see. The trees are also much younger and there is more brush which makes it difficult to explore. image/jpeg, 2592x1944 (24bit) 06_B+CRR_3-27-11.jpg    1011450 bytes |

From: "Dan Syrcher" sst703 -AT- verizon -DOT- net Date: Sun Mar 27 23:24:05 2011 Subject: This is the second drainage ditch to cut across the embankment. After getting across it, the embankment begins to show itself again. image/jpeg, 2592x1944 (24bit) 07_B+CRR_3-27-11.jpg    838646 bytes |

From: "Dan Syrcher" sst703 -AT- verizon -DOT- net Date: Fri Oct 15 22:23:22 2010 Subject: I took this a few hundred feet in. It's really beautiful to walk back here in the fall. I came upon a few large scrape marks in the ground [not in photo]. I didn't know if it was just a deer digging for something or maybe a bear. With all the bear attacks on the news, the saying in my head was,"If only I didn't go around the bend..." So, I stopped here and looked around, saw nothing, and then chickened out and returned to my car. If only.... image/jpeg, 2048x1536 (24bit) 07_B+S_r-o-w.jpg    763215 bytes |

SB #3 would be first from this direction. I am also standing on the spot I was about to be stuck in up to the frame of my car. It wasn't nice. image/jpeg, 2048x1536 (24bit) 08_r-o-w_at_Junction_Rd.jpg    604803 bytes |

From: "Dan Syrcher" sst703 -AT- verizon -DOT- net Date: Fri Oct 15 22:32:21 2010 Subject: This section is also closed off to motorized vehicles. In this area it is a little less taken over by growth. We begin to enter the cut. And this is the access point to Switchbacks 2&3. image/jpeg, 1536x2048 (24bit) 09_B+S_r-o-w.jpg    796206 bytes |

From: "Dan Syrcher" sst703 -AT- verizon -DOT- net Date: Thu Aug 9 10:38:20 2007 Subject: For years I've been boating up the Buffalo River to check out rail traffic going across the river. It is a fasinating place to watch. I've always noticed that the River crossing bridge was either missing nuts or about to. After the MSP bridge collapse and a recent run up the river, I was more aware of the bridges condition and took some photos. This is an upclose photo of one plate/joint that has missing nuts. There are others sections on this bridge in similar condition. image/jpeg, 1280x960 (24bit) 1-Buf_River.jpg    97665 bytes |

From: "Dan Syrcher" sst703 -AT- verizon -DOT- net Date: Sun Dec 10 21:41:08 2006 Subject: After putting out the fire and getting the doors off on the opposite side, the Caterpiller cranes carried this car up towards Walden Ave stopping in front of Niagara Hobby. After they cleared this, they started working on the boxcar hung on the bridge. image/jpeg, 1280x960 (24bit) 12-2nd_car_moving.jpg    175160 bytes |

From: "Dan Syrcher" sst703 -AT- verizon -DOT- net Date: Sun Dec 10 21:45:07 2006 Subject: They had both cranes tied to the end of this boxcar by think steel cables. They kept yanking but the car wouldn't budge. While waiting for the car to fall I pushed to hard on the button and snapped the picture before I was ready. image/jpeg, 1280x960 (24bit) 13-hung.jpg    136793 bytes |
