Subject: The next 15 photo's are what remains of the umcompleted section of the Buffalo and Cohocton Valley RR in Clarence, NY. Although the ROW made its way into WNY, the line was only completed upto Batavia, NY. Work stopped west of Batavia sometime after 1853.

This photo is the start of what is left of the ROW/Embankment facing West. Behind me, the embankment is gone and is now an access road for the quarry all the way to Tillman Rd.

Subject: This is the B&S crossing Junction Rd. The road right in front of me curving to the right and up is Junction Rd. The other road in the shade is Switchback Rd or the r-o-w headed in an easterly direction with SB 4&5 a few miles away.

Subject: This section of the ROW is the only spot with no snow on it. I tried to look for ballast but only found 2 stones. I'm surprised I even found those. Many decades of leaves have fallen on this abandoned ROW.

Subject: This is the first drainage ditch dug across the embankment. Once across it, the ROW flattens out and almost disappears. Even the overgrowth changes. I think this section between the first and second ditch may have been bulldozed at some point. Before I got to the second ditch, I started to think that maybe this is the point at which the work on the ROW was terminated. But it does keep going.

Subject: I took this a few hundred feet in. It's really beautiful to walk back here in the fall. I came upon a few large scrape marks in the ground [not in photo]. I didn't know if it was just a deer digging for something or maybe a bear. With all the bear attacks on the news, the saying in my head was,"If only I didn't go around the bend..." So, I stopped here and looked around, saw nothing, and then chickened out and returned to my car. If only....

Subject: For years I've been boating up the Buffalo River to check out rail traffic going across the river. It is a fasinating place to watch. I've always noticed that the River crossing bridge was either missing nuts or about to. After the MSP bridge collapse and a recent run up the river, I was more aware of the bridges condition and took some photos. This is an upclose photo of one plate/joint that has missing nuts. There are others sections on this bridge in similar condition.
