More than a shame, it's a sham! It's not congestion that is the problem, it's
the lousy meighborhood that is a couple of miles from downtown. NYC had a
tremendous amount of freight activity in this immediate area on 3 sides and
had no problem running oodles of trains into and out of the Central Terminal.
Skip Carrier of NYS DOT apparently doesn't even know the layout of the
terminal, THERE AREN'T ANY TRACKS northwest of the terminal, just streets and
houses, DUH!
With BILLIONS of Stimu-LESS dollars getting blown into the project they could
peel off a few million to reconnect the train concourse (a couple of feet
higher) to the terminal, rehab a platform or two, cut in a couple of switches
to the main and lay a few stretches of track.
To summarize, the neighborhood stinks, the station is OLD, it's Buffalo in
UPSTATE NY, the DOT is clueless and the politicians are as corrupt and
incompetent as the day is long.
