Windsor Locks Preservation Group Nearing Historic Train Station Purchase


March 31, 2009 WINDSOR LOCKS - The Windsor Locks Preservation Association
has gotten eight of the required 11 department approvals from Amtrak to buy
the historic station on Main Street. 

Barbary Schley, chairman of the group within the association trying to
preserve the station, said time is running out for the building, and
recently invited Sen. Chris Dodd and Rep. John Larson to visit the station. 

``Our main concern right now is the rapid rate of deterioration that
building is going through,`` Schley said. 

The group wants to preserve it as a piece of U.S. and state history, and is
focused on buying the property rather than leasing. Negotiations have been
going on for about two years. 

``Our feeling is that buying is in the best interest of the people of
Windsor Locks as well as the best interest of preservation,`` Schley said.
