That ratty lookin' railroad trestle

As evidenced by the scaffolding climbing the wall at Route 611 and South
Third Street, artist Matt Nixon has started transferring his
transportation-themed mural from paper to reality. Canal pioneer Josiah White will feature
prominently in the mural.

Then there's the matter of the Norfolk Southern-owned railroad trestle
spanning South Third and long-vacant train station. The city's working on it,
Mayor Sal Panto told those at the sparsely attended town hall meeting last week
in the South Side.

The city managed to coax some Norfolk Southern representatives north to look
at the station, which now serves as Easton's front door thanks to I-78.

By next spring, the station will be power washed, new lighting installed,
the railing across the trestle replaced and "Welcome to Easton" painted across
one side of the trestle.

"We were trying to get it done this year, but Norfolk Southern moves slower
than the city," Panto said.
