(rshsdepot) Amtrak Towers

A follow up on Amtrak removing towers along the Northeast Corridor. It has suggested seeing that Canton Junction was moved, that maybe one of these towers could be moved for preservation.

Boston Switch would be tough as the Wyatt Detention Center - a fancy name for a prison, has expanded towards the Providence and Worcester main. The access road for Boston Switch was back here at Blackstone Street and could be limited.

Lawn Tower is built on an embankment with the electrified right of way there.

Westerly looks to be a good choice. In these photos Westerly doesn¢t look to bad.

Groton? I¢m not that familiar with Groton.

They all share the basic New Haven tower design.

Talking with Jim Bear, we're kinda sure items like roofs were mass produced to be quickly erected on site by carpenters. Built on slabs, you can see mason¢s putting these up rather quickly, even with the fancy arches. Not shabby by no means. The bricks are round corner bricks. That concrete detail running round the tower is niece with those prominent call medallions. Boston Switch, vandals must of had a go at the roof. I¢ve seen Terracotta roofs lasting much longer. Even the wooden shutters put in place when closed have served well.

Lawn and Boston both very difficult to photograph.
