List,

NJ Transit has published a notice that it is selling the ex-Erie/EL Benson
Street Station in Glen Ridge, NJ. It is
located on that portion of the New York & Greenwood Lake Branch that lost
passenger rail service with the opening of
the Montclair Connection.  According to the legal notice, Transit is seeking
competitive bids for the purchase of
the vacant building with a minimum bid of $150,000.

Interesting - I thought that Jimmy Wilson of the New York & Greenwood
Lake owned it.  Maybe just leased?

I believe he leased it from the EL starting around 1972, I think? And
the lease carried over to CR and then NJT. The station suffered a fire
on its west end quite a number of years ago, so its west end isn't as
"pretty" as the east end, but it's a neat looking station. It's in a
very nice neighborhood, too, complete with gas lamps.

More puzzling - I thought NJT donated the station to the town of Glen
Ridge a few months back? Maybe they didn't want it?
