It doesn`t look like much now, but it will. The beige-colored stucco that
used to greet passengers at Minot`s Amtrak depot has now been stripped revealing
the original brick. City officials have been discussing what to do with the
eye sore that has become the depot for four years. Finally, the first phase
of a rebuilding project is done. The city spent $7,000 to tear off the stucco.
Complete restoration will include using new brick and will cost nearly
$380,000.
``You probably don`t want to use the existing brick to try and patch it
because you would never match it anyway. It makes it look a lot better if it`s
restored as close as possible to the new look with new material,” says Waide
Kritsky, Minot City Engineer.
If the Minot City Council approves, the city taxpayers portion of the project
will be $90,000, the rest is coming from the state. The depot could be done
sometime this summer.
