After many years of hard work and preparation, Sayre Borough now has a

Through the dedicated efforts of its various members, the Sayre Historical
Society recently opened the Sayre Historical Society Museum at what was
formerly the Lehigh Valley Railroad Passenger Station.

The museum’s opening solves a problem that Sayre Historical Society has had
to struggle with over for several years – how to properly store and display
its various items and records of the past; many of which are absolutely
priceless in nature. In converting the Lehigh Valley Railroad Passenger Station to
a museum, the society has performed the dual function of preserving a
building which is itself of great historical significance to the Sayre area, as well
putting it to excellent use to display and preserve many of the area’s
treasures of the past.

The Sayre Historical Society Museum is the latest of a series of excellent
local establishments geared to preserving the past for area residents as well
as out-of-town visitors – the Bradford County Historical Society Museum in
Towanda and the Tioga Point Museum in Athens just to note two. These and other
area museums serve the invaluable function of preserving the past so that
those of the present and future and enjoy and learn from it.

“The aim is to preserve the history of Sayre and share it with the public of
all ages,” according to a card that was presented at the Sayre Historical
Society Museum’s grand opening on Dec. 16. Museum visitors can learn how the
Lehigh Valley Railroad was instrumental in establishing Sayre Borough; or how
the Robert Packer Hospital/Guthrie Health Care system developed into a major
medical facility over the years.

These are but two examples of the rich and varied history that Sayre Borough
– as well as the rest of Bradford County – has to offer. The Sayre
Historical Society Museum performs the vital service of sharing the various items and
stories that make the Borough of Sayre what it is today.

Kudos to members of the Sayre Historical Society for their dedication and
hard work in establishing a local museum – an act that will help preserve the
past for many future generations to come.
