Crew to start inspection of railroad bridge today
Engineering inspections on the Poughkeepsie Railroad Bridge are slated to
begin today.
Peter Malewski, an engineer with Bergmann Associates, said an inspection
crew comprised of 10 people has been setting up near the bridge, preparing for
the inspection, which should last eight to nine weeks, depending on the
weather.
Crews will follow standard Department of Transportation inspection procedure
and will look for signs of corrosion and any other potential problems.
An underwater inspection last year went well, Malewski said. This is the
first inspection on the main framework of the bridge, which is the focus of a
future walkway connecting Dutchess County to Ulster County.
