Dyson donates $1.5 million to railroad bridge
MILLBROOK — The effort to reopen the long-closed Poughkeepsie Railroad
Bridge to pedestrians and cyclists has taken a major step forward.
The Millbrook-based Dyson Foundation announced today it will fund a $1.5
million engineering and design study that would serve “as the first critical step
’’ in plans to transform the bridge, closed since a 1974 fire, into a
pedestrian park spanning the Hudson River.
In a press release, Dyson officials said the grant will allow Walkway Over
the Hudson, the non-profit group dedicated to converting the bridge into a
public park, to “fast-track” the project in hopes of finishing it in time for
the 2009 Henry Hudson Quadricentennial celebration.
