Here's a postcard photo of Dayton's grand station in 1914.
 
If I have the story straight, about 1950, the city and the railroad agreed  
to elevate the tracks through downtown and the great station was replaced with 
a  modest brick structure which has since been torn down also. 
 
It is probably that second station that you're father was referring  to.
