Palo Alto and not Menlo Park?
I have had the distinction of living a block away from Menlo Park (Cal.
SP), oldest used station on west coast and working a block away (a few
years later) from what was the oldest continually used station in US
unchanged at Hewlett (still there though not used as ticket office anymore
for around 7 years maybe), New York (South Side RR of LI/LIRR)
The fools knocked down East Willitson (oldest LIRR station pretty recently
and bigger fools demolished the old South Side Rockville Centre
freight/passenger station (the outbound side) in a parking lot of an inn on
old ROW of the traction line in Oceanside since c. 1924 (I was so mad when
this was knocked down I never completed my article on it, plus saw a 1920s
article on it with a picture and explanation of why it was there, but I
didn't even read it and now must refind it in old Nassau Daily Review
newspaper) (I lived a few blocks from that one as well, and as I also lived
near the Santa Clara depot as well as the old San Jose WP freight depot
(now also stupidly demolished), I have been near quite a lot of historic
little depots.
And I agree about Hoboken, it is an amazing and almost hidden depot and
cooly still heavy used, though I can't roam around the enormous ferry
concourse upstairs anymore now that tehy ares upposedly actually restoring
it somehow.
I would add South Station in Boston, but maybe before they knocked down the
Post Office side wing....and if demolished Penn Station can be on this list
this opens the list to historic gone depots and I would add hundreds (like
SP mission style terminal in San Francisco, many in Chicago including
Northwestern, IC, Dearborn/Polk, LaSalle Street...and that amazing huge old
Union Depot in Cleveland before the tower; but I don't see why it was on
the list being gone now for 43 years or so, so I will just add Waterbury,
Conn., the D&H in Albany, the UP in Salt Lake (the unused one if that one
is the one), Reading Terminal in Philly (interior) as well as the PRR in
Pittsburgh (does interior still exist?)..and I will throw in Torrington,
Conn. just because it still exists so many years after closing

> The American Institute of Architects (AIA) conducted a survey of public
asking about their favorite buildings. The top 150 buildings include the
following train stations:

> Washington Union Station
> Cincinnati Union Terminal
> Los Angeles Union Passenger
> Chicago Union Station
> Kansas City Union Station
> New York Penn Station (the accompanying photo shows the original station
which was demolished)
> Philadelphia 30th Street Station
>
> The Washington, DC Metro was also included.

Chicago Union Station has lost too much of its original structure.

> Of the stations on the list Grand Central and Los Angeles Union Passenger
Terminal are my favorites. I hope to visit Cincinnati Union Terminal some
day.
