Phoenix hasn't had Amtrak service for almost 10 yrs. Flagstaff, to the north, has the old ATSF line from Chicago to LA, and Tucson, to the south, has the old SP El Paso to LA line. Phoenix, our state capital and "world-class" metropolis, has only bus service. We are, however, in the thick of building a light-rail system. I work in an office which is a few minutes from the old Union Station. The tracks which connected the SP to the ATSF Prescott branch are a few block away, and handle freight only. A look at old Official Guides would show Pullman service to both Chicago (via Ash Fork) and LA (via Williams) from Phoenix on the Santa Fe. Also, the joint CRIandP-SP Golden State route from Chicago passed through Phoenix, and Pullmans were available to Chicago and LA.
Greetings from sunny Scottsdale, AZ
