I am a committee member of a recently formed group, the "Friends of the
Milton On Hudson Train Station."
This group is a part of the Town of Marlborough Historical Society in
Marlboro / Milton NY (Ulster County).
Several years ago the town of Marlborough acquired the Milton Train
station. The towns original plan was to include the station with in a
Town Park. Limitations as to use by park regulations and restrictions
with grants , led the town to have the station removed from the park
plans . The NY Parks department recently approved the change. The
Station is now designated on a separate parcel of land adjacent to the
park.
A newly formed group Friends of the Milton On Hudson Train Station , is
now looking into how the station can be rehabilitated and restored to
usefulness and it's original beauty. It is our belief Restoration would
be prohibitively costly There fore we feel Rehabilitation is a better
term for our plans. We are looking into sources of information and
resources in our effort.
The building is in sound structural condition. Very few changes have
been made over the last hundred plus years
There is a currently a grant for an Architectural and Engineering survey
,and for an emergency repair of a leak in the roof.
We are seeking information as to what can be done and how to proceed.
I thought your organization may be able to supply us with some direction
or links to information / resources
The roof needs replacing. Windows and doors have to be replaced. A
small bump out in the ticket room / office room will be removed. New
electric & heat must be installed , and plumbing updated Despite these
major issues , the building is in good condition..
Any information or leads would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
John Scott
