(rshsdepot) RE: Elmsdale NS station

The Nova Scotia Railway Heritage Society was unsuccessful in its attempt to secure funding from both Canadian National Railways (CN) and the North American Railway Foundation (NARF) that would have enabled the group to establish a railway heritage centre in the 1920s-era CN station in Elmsdale Nova Scotia, Canada. The group has not given up its quest, but has had to inform the Municipality of East Hants, which now owns the station, that they should seek another tennant for the building that once held the branch of the local library.
The society will now focus upon getting its certification as a charitable organization through the Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA), in order to better access sources of funding from private corporations.
This presents a challenge, because with only a three-year history to its credit, the group will have to demonstrate to the CRA that it meets the requirements of a process that doesn't actually define charitable activities.
The society had been the municipality's first choice as tennant for the building, and the local government had been very patient and supportive while the society attempted to secure funding.
