According to Union Pacific spokesman Mark Davis, the UP intends to raze
the ex-Chicago & Alton depot in Wilmington, Illinois in the very near
future, possibly this month. UP has notified the Wilmington Depot
Association that it intends to demolish the structure if it is not moved
off of UP property soon. The Association has been working for about
eight
years to find a new site for the depot and raise funds for the moving
expense, but it has been unsuccessful.

List,
Realizing that Bill just posted information
regarding the Wilmington depot, we received
news as well that the Pekin GM&O depot is in
trouble. The owner of the depot, who also owns
Creative Landscaping next door, wants to sell
the depot or even have it moved. If it doesn't
sell, he's considering razing the structure.
My source shared that the owner is tired of
paying taxes on the unused property.
I've personally been inside the depot and from
my first impression, it seems structurally sound.
I was impressed with how intact and unchanged it
was from its days of use. I commented to a friend
that it looked like the railroad just locked the door
and left.
