$1.1 million in promised funding released for city  depot

Special to the American  

WASHINGTON D.C. – The Department of Transportation will release $1.1 million  
in funding for upgrades to the historic train depot in Hattiesburg, Sens. 
Trent  Lott and Thad Cochran of Mississippi announced Thursday.  
Funds for this project were originally appropriated in the FY 2004  
Transportation, Treasury Appropriations bill.  
The Hattiesburg Intermodal Transportation Center project includes the  
construction of an intermodal transfer facility where pedestrians and vehicles  can 
safely interact as well as the restoration of the exterior interior of the  
hundred year-old building for continued use as a depot and transportation  hub.

When completed, the Hattiesburg Intermodal Transportation Center  will 
include 5 off-street bays for commercial buses and 2 for local trolleys.
