Re: (rshsdepot) Inquiry to the list re: a train station in Woodbridge, NJ

Tyreen:

Have you tried the NJ State Archives in Trenton?

Was the CR office in Mt. Laurel NJ?

Subject: (rshsdepot) Inquiry to the list re: a train station in Woodbridge, NJ

  Dear RSHSDepot List Members,

I am not sure if this is the appropriate method of inquiry, so please let me
know if I should handle this another way.

I am working on HABS documentation for the Woodbridge Train Station,
Woodbridge, Middlesex County (built 1939-1940, not the earlier, more
elaborate one that no longer exists). It is now part of the New Jersey
Coast Line, but was then the Perth Amboy Branch of the PRR. NJ TRANSIT does
not have any plans of the station on file, but the 1978 NJ TRANSIT survey
form for the station stated that Conrail had plans at its Philadelphia
location. We have since confirmed that there is no longer a Conrail
facility there, and that their current location does not have copies of the
plans of this station. Do you happen to have any insight into who else
might have copies of them? They did exist at one point. Chris Baer at the
Hagley Museum confirmed that they do not have copies of them, and the PA
State Archives do not appear to have any. We have made inquiries (with no
answers as of yet) with the Pennsylvania Railroad Technical & Historical
Society Discussion Web and also the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania.

In addition, the NJ TRANSIT form references what may have been some sort of
booklet created for the dedication ceremonies in 1940 (May 20, 1940, to be
exact). None of our local history sources here have been able to find a
copy of this booklet, which is listed in the bibliography as "Dedication of
New Station, Woodbridge, NJ Township of Woodbridge, 1940". Although not a
large or ornate station, the dedication was a very big affair, with
Secretary of the Navy, Charles Edison, and the NJ Governor in attendance.
Any suggestions you might have on locating this booklet - or whatever it
might have been - would also be greatly appreciated. References to it in
the survey form list pages 4,7,8,10, and 125-128. Seems suspiciously long
to be a booklet, but I'd really like to find whatever it is. I found a
souvenir edition of the "Independent-Leader" newspaper (the editor was also
the dedication ceremony organizer), but the page references from the NJ
  TRANSIT form do not match.

Thank you, and I appreciate any help you may be able to provide.

  Sincerely,
  Tyreen Reuter
