(rshsdepot) Santa Paula, CA
Here's a rather unusual use for a train station...a bit like the train
station in Plains, Georgia.
If you watch the television show, The West Wing, you know much of this
year's plot revolves around a fictional campaign for president between Republican
senator Arnold Vinick and Texas congressman Matt Santos. Vinick is portrayed
as being from a citrus-growing region in California. Santa Paula, which
calls itself the "Citrus Capital of the World," decided it must be his home and
lobbied for the designation.
Now, getting to the station. In April 2005 the town setup its historic
train station as the Vinick campaign headquarters. If you go to

(http://www.ci.santa-paula.ca.us/vinick/index.htm) (http://www.ci.santa-paula.ca.us/vinick/hq.htm) you'll see some
photos of the station and learn a little more behind the story.
