(rshsdepot) LIRR fringe line question

I work near the tracks that used to be the Central RR of LI....the line
that goes past the Clinton Road station now a firehouse.
This is the branch cut back in 1954.
The circus train is there this week. Not in the yard which has no more
rails (it holds signals and such now)
The antique cars, two cabooses, an old tungsten red LIRR baggage car,
two coaches and a freight car are now sitting on a track that was a
freight delivery until recently.
My question is when did they totally abandon freight on this short
branch? I recall closed hoppers at its eastern end, the silver type
with chemicals inside. But now this has been cut back, so no freight at
all is on this section, usually they sit open rock cars there.
Anyway when did they stop freight on this section and why? sorry for
the incoherence tonight
[and no I missed the elephants]
