Days numbered for what may be historic train station in Littlestown

By AARON YOUNG - Times Staff Writer

A train station in Littlestown, which some believe to be historical, is in jeopardy of being demolished after borough supervisors gave conditional use approval for three stores and a training gymnasium to be built on the site.

Borough council paved the way for the possible demolition of the Littlestown Train Station, at 212 S. Queen St., on Tuesday, at the regular council meeting. But Hanover resident and Civil War buff Bob Resig, believes the station has been around since the Civil War era.

"(If the station is demolished] I'm saddened by the loss," said Resig. "It's a great historical loss. Littlestown history is being swept under the rug."

Though no firm confirmation of the original date of the station can be found, Resig believes that the station was a very active part of wounded soldier transportation during the Civil War.

Gwenyth Loose, project manager of the York County Rail Trial Authority said, "We know what the Adams County Historical Society has told us. We know a station was in Littlestown during the Civil War and it was in operation, but we don't know if it's the building there today."
