You think leaves on the track are bad, try caterpillars sunning themselves
on the railhead in the spring of the year. Just like putting lubricating grease
on the rails. On the hill south of Potsdam, NY they had to put an extra
diesel unit on the train, disconnected the freight train from the three engines,
and run light up and down the hill a few times to sand the track and then
recoupled the train and run like hell down the hill before more crawled up on
the railhead. What fun.
