From Bernie Rudberg;
For those of you who are interested in Hudson Valley railroad history, I
have been posting many photos on a web site. The photos are of the New
Haven, the CNE and predecessor lines mostly in Dutchess County New York.
This includes a section of very interesting pictures of the construction of
the big RR bridge in Poughkeepsie in the 1880's plus the Maybrook Line and
other smaller lines in the area. The site is still growing with a couple
more sections to be added in the next few weeks. Take a look at the web
site at:

How did Hopewell become Hopewell Junction ?
For those of you in the Dutchess County area, I will be speaking at the East
Fishkill Community library at 7:oo PM on Tuesday, 25 October. The library
is next to the Town Hall on Route 376 in Hopewell Junction. I will have
copies to sell of the latest picture book of Hopewell Junction railroads.
The book has over 170 pages of history and mostly photos of the railroads of
Hopewell Junction where the ND&C/CNE crossed the Maybrook Line. The
discussion will be mainly on the railroad history of Hopewell Junction and
East Fishkill. Bring your questions and we will try to answer them.
In addition, my friend Roger Liller will be there to show some of his
railroad artifacts and talk a bit about the book he is working on about the
New York, Boston & Monteal Railway that was never completed. At one time
places like Beekman and Clove Branch Junction were going to be stops on the
main line between New York City and Montreal Canada. That dream died in the
financial panic of 1873. It should be an interesting evening for rail fans.
We would be happy to have you join us.
