(rshsdepot) Latest update from the SErails list

Friends:
The latest from WTM on the SErails list.

Will continue to forward pertinent info as it comes in.

I had the chance to travel to Hattiesburg yesterday
with a church group delivering supplies to Katrina
victims. The area from Tuscaloosa south to the coast
has become a third world, at least in the short term.
No power, clean water, sewer, etc., and gasoline is
almost non-existent for over 150 miles along I-20/59
from west Alabama to the coast. We passed rail lines
and yards from NS, KCS, and CNIC. All appeared OK but
no engines were seen and fewer cars than normal were
present. Let me be clear, this is NOT the time to
railfan this region. There is no infrastructure. Most
of it is standing but with no power, fresh water,
fuel, or places to stay it will be miserable for the
near future.
Our paper will have my photo gallery of images up by
Tuesday at www.romenews-tribune.com.
I am also working on a story of my experiences from
the trip. It is surreal down there.
