The tunnel in question is not completely sealed. It is still accessible
via a manhole cover in Atlantic Avenue. About 10 or 15 years ago, tours
were offered of the tunnel, and I was one of those who descended through the
manhole and toured the tunnel. I did not see any pre-1860 steam locomotive;
however, I also did not tour the entire tunnel, so the comment conceivably could
be correct.
