US&S Co. Color Position Light Signal Drawings: PRR & N&W Signals
Item Price:$ 34.95
by Ron Boyd. Loose leaf binder with 54 pp of drawings of masts, controls,
heads, light positions, with 9 full-color photos and colored drawings of
signal indications. "The PRR and the N&W railroads used a wide variety of
signal installations using US&S Co. equipment. In earlier years it was
common to see position light signals with all lights having yellow lenses.
The two railroads'' signals looked alike: both used the yellow lenses on
their signals whether there were one or two targets being used on a
particular signal; both targets having a row of three lamps giving the same
indication. The PRR used red lenses horizontally on some installations with
only two lenses being lit, while the center lens was not lit or was removed
altogether....In the 1960s on the N&W a change took place with the upper
targets having no center lamp. N&W replaced the two vertical yellow lenses
with green and the horizontal ones with red lenses. The result was color
position light indications which looked similar to those used by the
B&O...." Also covered: hood styles, lamp casings, diffusers, marker lamps,
support equipment, and a partial list of signal names and indications. The
variety of signal installations in this collection is a treasure trove of
scale drawings, plans, and pictures for any prototype modeler and historian
of the PRR or N&W.
