And if you can find it, track down Jack Finney's short story, "The Third 
Level."  It's about finding the third level at Grand Central Station, 
one below the suburban level, where the trains take you back to the 
years when the station was new.  One character finds it by accident, 
then comes back to our time and tells a friend.  The friend then 
disappears.  But while going through his grandfather's stamp collection, 
he finds a letter from the friend, who'd used a rare stamp so the 
grandfather would save it and his friend the grandson could find it.  
(Or so I recall -- have not read it in about 50 years)
