(rshsdepot) DL&W East Stroudsburg, PA Event this Saturday, June 25, 2005
The East Stroudsburg Tower Society is holding its First Annual Tower Festival on Saturday, June 25, 2005 from 9AM to 5PM in the park across the tracks from the former Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad Passenger Station (now the Dansbury Depot Restaurant) on Crystal St., East Stroudsburg, PA (off I-80).
The former DL&W Interlocking Tower at E'burg, an "armstrong" affair, is the last surviving wooden tower on the entire Lackawanna Railroad, and is currently being restored. It actually survived, manned, ito the Conrail era, as it controlled the yard tracks at E'burg, the end of double track eastward at Bells Bridge, served as a train order office, and monitored a set of local dragging equipment detectors. Of note is that the connection to the former Delaware Valley RR can still be faintly seen on the block board.
The day will feature tours of the tower, a "Miss Phoebe Snow" Contest, railroadiana vendors, and hopefully, a few surprises. Come, enjoy the day, have dinner at the Dansbury Depot, and check out the tower.
