This is the former B&O depot, closed for many years.

Fire in Defiance depot under investigation

DEFIANCE - Authorities are investigating a fire yesterday at a vacant railroad
depot owned by CSX Transportation.

"We had flames showing through the roof and out the second-story windows,"
Defiance fire Capt. Ed Bohn said. Firefighters were called to the depot at
2:30 a.m.

Because the brick-and-wood depot built in 1917 is very close to the railroad
tracks and firefighters did not want to stop trains, they fought the fire from
three sides of the building, and several trains passed while they worked,
Captain Bohn said.

Most of the roof burned, but the walls remained standing. Firefighters found
no definitive cause of the fire when they left the scene about 5 a.m. and an
investigation was continuing, Captain Bohn said.

Neither the fire department nor CSX had an estimate of the loss.
