2005 RAILROAD STATION HISTORICAL SOCIETY CONVENTION
ALTOONA, PENNSYLVANIA JUNE 3-6, 2005
What better place for the RSHS convention than in the "Railroad City"
itself, Altoona, Pennsylvania! And we're going to make it a very
special one for all of our attendees.
We'll have three days of our "conventional" depot touring, all three
days via motor coach, and I've added a fourth "optional tour" day to
cover the museums and other mountain tour sites from Altoona westward to
the peak of the Allegheny Mountain.
Our first day (Friday, 6/3/05) will head northward, along I-99, to the
Williamsport area. On Day #2 (Saturday, 6/4/05), we'll travel east and
south, spotlighting the existing structures on the East Broad Top and
the Huntingdon & Broad Top Railroads in south-central Pennsylvania. Day
#3 (Sunday, 6/5/05) will take us westward, through Johnstown and Derry,
to Indiana, Pennsylvania. (This route will butt us tight up and
adjacent to the eastern limits of our 1993 RSHS convention in Western
Pennsylvania.) On Day #4 (Monday, 6/6/05), we'll car caravan to sites
like the Altoona Railroaders' Museum, the Horseshoe Curve Visitors'
Center, Tunnel Caboose Museum at Gallitzin, and the Allegheny Portage
Railroad Lemon House, as time permits.
Our tours take us over routes parallel to live ex-PRR rail lines Of
Keystone Heritage on all four days, so we will get in some good train
spotting, while at most of our photographic points, we'll be safely "off
the property!" I'm really excited about what proves to be a fascinating
2005 meet! I really had a great time hosting the 1993 convention in
Western Pennsylvania, and I am looking forward to treating you to some
real Central Pennsylvania hospitality in 2005! That is a great,
historic, and very beautiful region over there, and I think you will
really enjoy the weekend! Hope to see you in Altoona!
Rich Ballash, RSHS 2005 Host
