• Gary's Union Station: Placed on the list in 1998, it has been vacant since the 1950s, much of the time without a roof and windows.
A 2000 federal grant finally cleared regulatory hurdles, so the station will soon get a new roof and other stabilizing repairs. The
landmarks foundation is participating with Gary to explore options, including possibly using it as a trailhead and visitors center.
