Re: Re: (rshsdepot) RR hotel Nashville, TN

I don't believe anyone in the original conversation WAS saying chief
engineers design railroad stations; I think we're all aware of architects'
involvement. BTW, the Chattanooga Terminal Station, where the Chattanooga
Choo Choo Hotel is located, was opened in 1909 and was designed by an
architect named Don Barber of New York, who was a student at the Beaux Arts
school in France when he submitted in 1904 what would eventually become the
winning design. (For a history, see
http://www.choochoo.com/history/station.shtml). The Terminal Station was
entered in the National Registry of Historic Places in 1973 (in a somewhat
confusing entry that describes the style as Victorian and the architect as
E. A. Vincent -- if someone can explain this confusion, it would be great).
Terminal Station should not be confused with the Chattanooga Union Station,
which WAS designed in the Victorian-style, and was razed in 1973.
