(rshsdepot) Re: RSHSDepot Digest V1 #1032

The vintage 1899 Choctaw Oklahoma & Gulf freight station was
incorporated into the Clinton library by serving as landfill... the site
now covered primarily by landscaping. The other half of this
architecturally unique passenger-freight combination, the Choctaw
passenger station, remains on the library grounds as the Clinton School
of Public Service. The exterior of the passenger station remains intact
(it had been meticulously restored by the Spaghetti Warehouse restaurant
chain in the 1990s) but the interior of the building has been
extensively modified for its present use. To their credit, the CSPS
officials seem to recognize the historic importance of the Choctaw
passenger station, and its preservation seems assured.

For detailed coverage of the Choctaw freight station's "incorporation"
into the Library on the day before Thanksgiving, 2001, see
